After 35 matches, Capt. Rian Murray and F/O John French competed in the Capt. Pat McNamara Fireball final.

The match was played at the home of next year's Open, Royal Portrush Golf Club and was won in spectacular fashion by F/O John French. With the sun shining and the wind blowing, links golf at its finest, Rian stormed into the early lead winning the first three holes.

John unfazed found form, won the next three holes leaving the match all square playing the 7th. Rian and John traded blows until finally on the 12th they halved a hole for the first time. John edged the next two holes and found himself 2 up with 4 to play.

John went on to win the match 3 & 2 after Rian narrowly missed his par putt on 16 to extend the match. F
